An Audience with Harry Deansway is a funny true-life fable on failure

An Audience with Harry Deansway is a show for anyone who’s been sued three times, fired from every job they’ve ever had and run their own nationally distributed comedy magazine that got £30,000 in debt.

This tragi-comic true life fable (with songs) is also a show for anyone who wants to laugh at all this happening to someone else! Schadenfreude anyone? Funny fails? An Audience with Harry Deansway is on at Aces and Eights, 22-28 August at 9pm. Over 18s only.

Harry said: “I would describe my show as nervous breakdown cabaret. I ran a comedy magazine, TheFix, that went bankrupt about five years ago. It got off to a bad start because the person on the first front cover was Jimmy Saville, before it all came out. So that was a bad omen.

“The launch of it coincided with the death of print and comedy is all about timing. Then at the end I thought I would put on a benefit to pay off the debts and that ended up losing money and putting me more in debt.

“No-one came because it snowed that night and that bankrupted me. It was the Bloomsbury Theatre. I’ve still not paid it off and never will. It is great for my bucket speech in Edinburgh. It’s like a student loan.

“The show includes covers of songs, Tragic Moments instead of Magic Moments, Very Bad Year instead of Very Good Year. It’s tragi-comedy, laugh at me, warts and all. It is very funny.”

Renaissance man. Impresario. Bit of a twat. Just some of the words Harry has used to describe himself in this bio. He was also the comedy editor for the Guardian Guide, directed several sell out critically acclaimed shows, sold out a London run of his debut show Wrong Way and appeared as a panelist on Loaded TV’s flagship book show Lads Lit. He has overseen online comedy channel Raybot.

“Harry is a train wreck that’s already happened.” Rich Fulcher, Mighty Boosh

“Hilarious” Justin Long, Star of Die Hard 4.0 and Dodgeball.

Harry is not only promoting his own show he has also booked international up and coming comedy stars at Aces and Eights.

Highly recommended is Norwegian comic and Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Newcomer Daniel Simonsen. His show Working On It opens tonight at Aces and Eights at 7.45pm, as seen on  Russell Howard’s Good News and House of Fools.

“Funny before he even opened his mouth” Scotsman

“Creepily brilliant” Fabulous Magazine
